Arent Fox to Participate in ABA’s 2018 Investment, Arbitration & Pacific Transactions Conference
Complex Litigation and International partner Malcolm McNeil, partner Timothy Feighery, the head of the Arent Fox International Arbitration & Dispute Resolution Group, and Lee Caplan, a partner in the firm’s International Arbitration & Dispute Resolution Group, will be participating in the ABA’s 2018 Investment, Arbitration and Pacific Transactions Conference which will be held in Singapore from May 10-11, 2018. Malcolm McNeil is a member of the conference planning committee and Arent Fox is a sponsor of this conference.
On Thursday, May 10 Lee Caplan will serve as a speaker on a panel titled “State Experience in The Prevention of Investment Treaty Disputes and the Improvement of State Readiness for Investment Arbitration.” This panel will address the approach that States have taken in attempting to prevent investment disputes or minimize investment arbitrations, including capacity building of State officials with powers over foreign investment, stocktaking of economic sectors potentially or historically susceptible to investment disputes, early warning systems for differences that may escalate to full-fledged investment disputes, and prevention programs implemented by some States.
On Friday, May 11 Tim Feighery will speak on a panel titled “State Representation in International Arbitration and Matters of Public International Law.” This panel will discuss the difficulties that are generally encountered while providing advice to States in international matters or while representing States before international tribunals, and practical ways to address those challenges.
